At
Light & Motion we have been fielding
many questions about HDV. Here's our most frequently asked
questions.
What's the difference between Standard Definition and High
Definition?
Only 17 million pixels! - Standard Definition Video is 480
x 720. High Definition is 1080 x 1920 pixels. With a little
math, we find that HDV has six times more resolution than
SD.
Which is better 720p or 1080i?
This question is hotly debated throughout the HD community
and we will not attempt to give the definitive answer here.
What is agreed upon is that both 1080i and 720p are substantially
better than 480i standard definition.
What are my editing options?
HDV is widely suported by industry leading editing systems.
Apple has two HDV editing options. Final Cut Express HD is
$299 and Final Cut Pro HD is $999. With a free plug-in Adobe
Premier 1.5 users are ready to start. http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/hdv.html.
